Donut freak out! It’s true. We give you healthy, protein packed, homemade donuts. This recipe takes some above average baking skills but if you stay true to the recipe we’re certain that, you to, will be feasting on these gorgeous looking treats!
What you’ll be needing:
– 3 cups Take-A-Whey Whey Protein Powder (we used Chocolate Milkshake)
-1 cup of whole wheat flour
-2 table spoons of yeast
-3 cups bread flour
-250 g butter
-1 table spoon salt
– Nuts of choice (we used walnuts)
-Deep pan to fry in

Proof the yeast by soaking it in 250 ml lukewarm water for 10 minutes. Then add 1 cup whole wheat flour and set aside. Now combine the butter and sugar in the mixing bowl and mix them together. Put in the eggs, one by one. Then slowly add the vanilla, salt and bread until you have a nice mixture. When smooth add the yeast mixture, Keep stirring until everything is perfectly blended. Now let everything sit for at least 2 hours. After 2 hours, take your dough (it should be Sticky and pasty with a stringy appearance) and roll out the dough to a thickness of 1 cm on a floured surface to prevent sticking. Cut out your donuts using a doughnut cutter. Tip: you can also use a glass and the cap of a wine bottle to cut out the hole.
Now fry the donuts in a deep pan filled with sunflower oil heated to approx. 370 degrees until they’re golden brown on both sides. Fry 4 at a time and ones golden place them on some paper towels to get most of the oil out. When you have fried all your donuts (don’t forget to fry your holes) let them cool in the fridge. When cooled off you can decorate them anyway you want. For the frosting, mix a royal amount of Vanilla Ice Cream Whey Protein Powder with two egg whites and some red pigment. Just the the tip of a skewer is enough pigment for a perfect pink. For the chocolate glaze we used the Chocolate Milkshake Whey Protein Powder and 1 cup of pure cocoa powder. No pigment was added. Crush your nuts and sprinkle on top of the still wet frosting. And voila, your super healthy donuts are done! Try not to eat them all at ones.
